Vancouver — no place for a box

August 26, 2014

In this blog’s ongoing coverage of the sad plight of cardboard boxes in Vancouver, this afternoon I snapped this heartbreaking photo of a derelict box in a Fairview back alley.

The hopeless wreck was flat broke but neither flat enough nor broken down enough to satisfy the exigencies of the mean back streets of Vancouver.

It is a poignant sight that simply serves to underscore my earlier post today about the mistreatment of retired corrugated cardboard boxes; how they’re routinely treated like garbage all because of a shortage of proper housing within the city of Vancouver’s blue bin recycling collection system.

This box is understandably wallowing in self-pity but — difficult as it might be — if it could just think outside of itself for a moment it would see that all cardboard boxes in Vancouver are in the same predicament. Click the image to enlarge it.
