Hello, good morning and good night

October 4, 2014

All week I’ve been tinkering with a kind of panoramic image stitched together from a whole bunch of photos taken at the same location — looking north from Alder Street — but at different times through the day: morning, afternoon, evening and late evening. The idea was to create a field of view that was elongated in both space and in time.

My artist friend Kent Crawford has some wonderful ideas for incorporating the passage of time into large landscape paintings. I can’t wait to see them but of course I have to wait, don’t I? These paintings would necessarily be the work of seasons and, I’m led to believe, fine art doesn’t always pay for itself; he’s often required to make time for a day job. What a shame.

While I’m waiting, I thought, why not have a go at it myself? Click the image to enlarge it.
