Driver needed to run into Toys “R” Us for a minute

February 4, 2015

A drive-by shooting by a friend of mine at the scene of Destroys “R” Us today.

Just after 12 noon today in Fairview, the driver of a white van crashed their vehicle into the Toys “R” Us store located on the south side of the 1100 block of West Broadway Avenue. The van jumped the curb and completely took out a front display window on the northwest end of the store.

I wasn’t on hand to witness the crash in person; the first I saw of it was a post on Twitter just before 1 p.m.

Before 2 p.m. one of my friends drove by the scene and took some photos as a tow truck operator was extricating the van.

Van collides with toy store, film at 11 — maybe

By the time I arrived on the scene at just after 2 p.m. the van was gone and only the mess remained.

Besides myself and all the other pedestrian looky-loos, there was a television camera crew from CTV Vancouver News — he was a ginger-haired fellow who walked his video camera from one side of the street to the other side and then back again.

Lights, cameras but no action.

Lights, cameras but no action.

I think he was doing this in search of an interesting and newsworthy angle but clearly it was far too late for that.

As a blogger I can’t pretend to understand journalism but perhaps this is the sort of footage that CTV saves just for their late news (drum roll please). Click the images to enlarge them.
