Still digging the sewer and water work on Hemlock Street

Hemlock Street, between West Broadway and 15th Avenue. will continue to be a bottleneck, allowing only northbound traffic, for another two months as work on new sewer and water lines under the southbound lane moves inexorably southwards towards its finish line at 15th Avenue.

This morning two Sewer Operations excavators were in the process of extending the sewer and water line trench halfway between 10th and 11th Avenue.

The city of Vancouver is saying that the Hemlock Street Rehabilitation Project — which began 10 days ago, and is scheduled to be completed in May, when it reaches 15th Avenue — represents a top-to-bottom infrastructure upgrade.

City crews are upgrading both underground water distribution and sewer lines and then filling the trench behind them as the work moves forward. Once the underground work is completed, concrete curbs and sidewalks along the path of the work will be replaced as necessary.

Finally, in May, Hemlock Street (all lanes by the sounds of it) will be repaved between 6th and 15th Avenue.
