Early Canadian politicians were birds of a feather

“Harumph!” declared the honourable member for Vancouver-Fairview.

Caught this wee bird perched on top of a brick today, which I took for the dark-eyed junco variety of sparrow. The pose it seemed to strike brought to mind all the pompous-looking Canadian politicians that populated the early history of our brave Confederation.

I especially thought of two of Canada’s stuffed-shirt Prime Ministers from the 19th century: our sixth, Sir Charles Tupper and (of course) our fourth, Sir John Sparrow David Thompson. Click the image to enlarge it.
