Where NOT to watch tonight’s hockey game — My McDonald’s

April 15, 2015

The puck drops at 7 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on the Calgary Flames at Vancouver Canucks in the first game of their 2015 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs First Round, best-of-seven matchup!

But you won’t be able to watch the game at the McDonald’s restaurant in the 1400 block of West Broadway Avenue — the big flat screen television is broken.

A game misconduct for unsportsmanlike television repair!

It was difficult to understand the store manager’s explanation through all the sobbing but near as I could tell, a technician who was trying to fix some minor problem with the set ended up breaking it completely.

The same repair person is not expected to come back before Friday when it is hoped the set can be repaired in time for staff and customers to see the second game between the two Pacific Division rivals.

Sadly the audio system in this McDonald’s doesn’t appear to be connected to radio.

hauppage-stickI may have the means to pick up digital TV signals on my laptop — some time ago I binned a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850 USB HDTV adapter stick in a dumpster and subsequently I even tracked down a disk image of what should be the proper install DVD — but I don’t have the energy to go through the steps to see if it works (and doesn’t stop something else from working in the process).

Instead, barring technical complications (like this McDonald’s awful Wi-Fi), I expect to be playing TSN 1040’s streaming audio feed of the game on my laptop for everyone’s listening pleasure. Click the image to enlarge it.
