My fair view of Monday’s rainbow

May 4, 2015

I know what you’re thinking: the awnings are more colourful.

Monday afternoon’s light rain in Vancouver ended with a short-lived rainbow.

Despite reports I have heard of a spectacular double rainbow, all I managed to see in the northeastern sky over the Fairview neigbourhood was barely one bow.

A rainbow is no match for clouds.

I watched the rainbow develop in the sky like an old Polaroid instant photograph until it reached its fullest intensity at about 5:37 p.m. Even then, only the northern quadrant of the arc developed any strong colour. The rest faded off into the advancing clouds which quickly overtook the whole thing. Click the images to enlarge them.
