Hot enough for you squirrel?

No one can know what goes on in the mind of a squirrel (certainly not a squirrel) but even I could guess why the skinny brown residential rodent I saw Tuesday afternoon crossed the road — to get out from under the broiling hot sun and into the shade on the south side of the street!

Anything to get that distressing taste of fried squirrel out of its mouth, I’ll wager.

Squirrel’s don’t usually lie down on the job but this once is okay

It was 25°C at the height of the afternoon and, as the Weather Network is fond of embellishing its temperature pronouncements — it felt more like 28°C.

A soon as the squirrel made it into the shade it just flopped down spread-eagle with its belly against the cool asphalt and laid perfectly still that way for a few minutes.

Ahhhhhhh!

Before long though, it came back to itself; noticed that it was being watched, went all squirrelly and ran away.

Where ever it ran off to, I hope that it found some water! Click the images to enlarge them.

Always enjoy your squirrel observations. Hope you read ‘dog eats Doug’ in the province paper. That guy knows squirrels too (and cats of another dimension too :)). A little more twilight zonie than ‘Simon’s cat’ of YouTube fame tho. Yup, hope he found some water in the urban desert. Hope there are night time landscaping sprinklers leaving little oasises (?) about for early morning partaking.
