Santa Fe redevelopment looks like child’s play

August 17, 2015

Two walls, pierced with rectangular window-like holes — themselves pierced with light from the surrounding neighbourhood –rise out of the gravel-filled pit on the northwest corner of Oak Street and 14th Avenue.

These walls are the last concrete remnants of the original Santa Fe apartment building but after the light of day has faded they could just as easily be a child’s construction out of building blocks.

.Even the large excavator looks obligingly like a child’s toy left out after dark.

Come the morning and the workers and it will be a construction site again but at 11 p.m., on a quiet summer’s night (August 16), the Santa Fe redevelopment at 2975 Oak Street looks eerily like a big playground sandbox. Click the image to enlarge it.
